But why TESSERA?

  • Nature is derived from the Latin word natura, which was a Latin translation of the Greek word physis that means growth, development, progress. Nature consists of 4 dynamic elements, water, fire, earth and air! From their interactions and mixtures all the objects of the Universe – tangibles and intangibles, visible and invisible – are created.
  • The number 4 symbolizes the basis of life. From Biology we know that DNA consists of 4 bases: Cytosine – Guanine, Thymine – Adenine.
  • FOUR are the fundamental forces in physics, FOUR are the basic states of matter.
  • FOUR are the seasons of the year, FOUR are the basic mathematical operations, FOUR are the points of the horizon. We, humans perceive nature as four-dimensional.

Recyclables

Products that can be “reborn” helping reduce C02 emissions.

And yet… the history of recycling dates back to the Bronze Age! At that time, people used fire to melt their metal objects so that they could make new products from the raw material.

Thus, even today recycling is the method of processing already used materials to manufacture new products. This is the reason why recycling reduces the consumption of raw materials from natural resources, saves energy and minimizes greenhouse gas emissions. Recyclable materials come from paper, glass, various plastics (such as PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS), aluminum, etc.

Where are disposable products stored after consuming beverages or food contained in them? They usually end up at landfill or are incinerated or, at best, recycled. In addition to the above methods, we often hear about biodegradation.

Degradability of materials generally occurs when they are exposed to means that help to break them down. The decomposition of products, when they are disposed of to the environment, takes many years. The rate of degradation depends on the nature of the material and the environmental conditions. For example, aluminum decomposes after 100-200 years, plastics decomposes after 450 years, while glass never decomposes! Thus, aluminum and plastics have low degrees of degradation and reduced compatibility with the environment.

But what is biodegradation and which disposable packaging materials can not only be degraded, but also biodegraded?

Biodegradation is a biological degradation. The process, in which microorganisms, such as fungi and bacteria act! Microorganisms excrete enzymes, which can react with natural polymers (starch, cellulose, etc.). As a result, they cause the chemical or physical composition of bioplastic or natural products, converting them into elements that can be found in nature, such as CO2, water, salts, trace elements and biomass.

In this way, their reintegration as materials into the natural environment takes place more smoothly, which essentially completes the process of biodegradation in a natural way.

Compostable

Products converted into organic matter, the compost.

The word compost comes from the Latin word compositus and the verb componere (com + ponere = together + place). At the end of the 14th c. in French the word composte appears with the meaning of the mixture of leaves, manure and other materials for the fertilization of the earth. The word compost in its current sense appears in 1580 in England.

Compost is a natural fertilizer produced by the decomposition of organic materials (leaves, twigs, food scraps, such as fruits, vegetables, etc.). When it is of a good quality it can be used for any kind of cultivation.

Composting is essentially an enhanced biodegradation, which takes place under controlled conditions. Bacteria, fungi and other germs are the compost workers! They are assisted by many other larger organisms.

The resulting final material is compost (compost) contains valuable nutrients and can act as a soil conditioner. This is the difference between composting and biodegradation, ie composting creates compost (fertilizer) while during biodegradation the product simply decomposes into C02, water and biomass.
