TESSERA Bio Products® utensils from palm leaves come from the ARECA palm tree variety. These specific trees grow in Asian countries, especially in India, as they are favored by the tropical climate. ARECA palm leaves can reach up to two meters in length! When the leaves ripen, they fall, and collected by the producers to be used as raw material for the manufacture of these wonderful, completely natural tableware. After their collection, the palm leaves are cleaned, sterilized, placed in molds and compressed. Pressure applied to them gives their final shape. TESSERA Bio Products® wooden series come from 100% natural birch tree. Birch is a deciduous tree that reaches a height of 20 to 25 meters. It grows in cold climates and wet soil and it is highly resistant to moisture. Birch wood is a hard and durable material. According to Chinese tradition, the invention of paper dates back to 105 A.D., when Tsai Lun, a great court official, expressed his inspiration to the Han-dynasty emperor Ho-ti. His idea was to create paper from materials such as tree bark, hemp fibers, old rags, and pieces of silk. He mashed all these materials by pounding them in the water. Afterwards he poured the pulp on a flagstone and let it dry in the sun. The art of making paper spread rapidly throughout the world.

Paper has proven to be a timeless invention and now it is also used to make many kinds of disposable products. Water-based

TESSERA Bio Products® waterbased line presents the new paper products with an internal water-based emulsion coating. These products are recyclable, as no separation of the inner lining from the paper is required. They are composted in 75 days under dry and aerobic composting conditions and biodegradable in an anaerobic environment within 52 days.

Precisely because it is a by-product of sugar, its collection does not require additional arable land.

PLA

PLA (Poly – Lactic – Acid) is the most well-known biodegradable thermoplastic, derived from renewable sources, such as corn starch or other carbohydrate-rich substances.
