Why is it important to choose compostable packaging products? (Part 1) | Tessera Sustainable Packaging®
Composting can be defined as “recycling of nature”, since organic materials, such as food scraps, flowers or wood are turned into an organic fertiliser, the compost, which, once is broken down, nourishes the earth and can support plant growth.
Since the majority of human waste is mostly organic, turning it into compost removes it from landfills, resulting in a reduction in the production of methane, which, as a potent greenhouse gas, is one of the most important gases affecting climate change and global warming.

Indeed, composting has a positive impact on the problem of global warming. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by minimising the amount of dangerous methane produced in closed landfills.

By choosing composting, part of the problem could be solved at home, by turning food scraps and various biodegradable wastes into compost in a composter or special bin.

Finally, ‘going back to nature’ also reduces the use of harmful chemical fertilisers, which, in order to be produced, require the use of electricity and therefore non-renewable energy sources. By changing the method of fertilising the plants from chemical to ‘green’ fertilisers, a positive impact on the environment is also achieved.
