On the occasion of World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5, Intertan S.A., having as a symbol of environmental awareness the Tessera Sustainable Packaging® product line, carried out a beach cleanup in central Evia.

As a sign of respect to our “home”, nature itself, we organized an action for the Environment, with the hashtag #μονομιαγη #onlyoneearth, in order to remind the importance of its protection. An action that brought us face to face with the negative side of human intervention on the planet.

On the morning of Saturday, May 14, 55 volunteers, young and old, including company staff, gathered on a crowded beach in Evia, covering an area of one kilometre, in order to collect in rubbish bags all the rubbish scattered along the coast, polluting the natural landscape.

As a result, 30 bags were collected, whose waste was separated into recyclable and non-recyclable and then delivered to the Municipality’s garbage truck. Plastic bottles, caps and straws, paper and baby wipes, as well as non-recyclable food packaging were some of the findings of the volunteers.

This year, as the company celebrates 100 years since its foundation, a series of Corporate Social Responsibility actions “cover” the annual calendar of Intertan S.A. with substance and contribution, putting the focus on the Environment, People, Health and Education.

A few words about World Environment Day:

World Environment Day 2022 will be held under the theme “Only One Earth”, highlighting the need to live in harmony with nature, bringing about transformative changes towards a cleaner, greener way of life.

“Only one Earth” was the motto of the Stockholm Conference in 1972; 50 years later, the motto still stands – this planet is our only home and therefore we must preserve its resources. The Swedish government will organize World Environment Day 2022 in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
